General Maintenance Worker

Job Summary:

The General Maintenance Worker is responsible for the overall upkeep and maintenance of the ice arena. This role involves performing routine tasks to ensure the facility is clean, safe, and operational. Duties include performing minor repairs, and ensuring all equipment and areas within the arena and building exterior are in proper working order.

Key Responsibilities:

Ice Surface Maintenance:

  • Perform regular checks on refrigeration, dehumidification and electric heating systems to ensure proper operation.

Facility Maintenance:

  • Conduct routine inspections of the facility, including seating areas, locker rooms, restrooms, and other common areas, to ensure cleanliness and safety.
  • Perform repairs, including boilers, plumbing, electrical, drywall, painting, flooring and carpentry tasks as needed.
  • Assist with the setup and teardown of events, including moving equipment, setting up boards, and preparing the arena for various activities.

Equipment Maintenance:

  • Regularly inspect and maintain all ice arena equipment, including ice resurfacing machines, skate sharpening machines, and HVAC systems.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA standards.
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as spills, accidents, or equipment malfunctions, promptly and efficiently.

Customer Service:

  • Assist patrons with general inquiries and provide excellent customer service to ensure a positive experience.
  • Handle any customer complaints or issues in a professional manner, escalating to management when necessary.

Other Duties:

  • Assist with snow removal and outdoor maintenance as required.
  • Support other staff members with tasks as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the facility.
  • Participate in ongoing training and development opportunities.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in facility maintenance or a related field preferred.
  • Familiarity with ice arena operations and equipment is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and welding
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and perform repetitive motions for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in cold environments.

Compensation Package:

  • Full-time hours position – $29-$34 based on experience

Zamboni Driver

Job Summary:

The Zamboni Driver is responsible for the maintenance and resurfacing of the ice rink at Rochester Ice Center. This role ensures the ice surface is kept in optimal condition for all activities, including hockey games, figure skating, and public skating sessions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate the Zamboni to resurface the ice rink according to the schedule and event needs.
  • Perform regular maintenance on the Zamboni and other ice resurfacing equipment.
  • Monitor the condition of the ice and make adjustments as needed to ensure a smooth surface.
  • Assist with general rink maintenance, including cleaning and minor repairs.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe environment for all rink users.
  • Communicate with the rink general and assistant manager and other staff to coordinate ice resurfacing schedules.
  • Perform pre- and post-operation checks on the Zamboni and other equipment.
  • Address any issues with the ice surface promptly and efficiently.
  • Provide excellent customer service to rink patrons and respond to their inquiries.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience operating a Zamboni or other ice resurfacing equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of ice rink maintenance and operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Good physical condition, able to perform tasks that involve lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks efficiently.
  • Basic mechanical skills for equipment maintenance.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with ice rink safety protocols.
  • Experience in a customer service role.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and manage time effectively.

Work Environment:

  • This position requires physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Work will primarily be indoors in a cold environment.
  • The Zamboni Driver will be expected to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate the facility's schedule and events.

Pay Rate:

  • $19.00 - $23.00 per hour based on experience.

Hockey Rink Assistant

Job Summary:

The Hockey Rink Assistant is responsible for assisting with various tasks related to maintaining the ice rink and ensuring the facility is clean and organized. This role includes removing excess ice after Zamboni resurfacing, cleaning and maintaining the locker rooms, and providing general support to the rink operations team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the removal of excess ice and snow from the rink surface after Zamboni resurfacing.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks on the ice rink, such as repairing boards and glass.
  • Clean and sanitize locker rooms and other areas of the facility used by players and patrons.
  • Restock supplies in bathrooms, such as towels and toiletries.
  • Empty trash bins and ensure proper disposal of waste.
  • Assist with setting up and tearing down equipment for events and activities.
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe environment for all patrons and staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service to rink patrons and respond to their inquiries.

Evening Cleaner

Job Summary:

We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Evening Cleaner to join our team at the Ice Arena. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene of the facility during evening hours, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons and staff. This role is crucial for preparing the arena for the next day's activities and events.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and vacuuming of all areas within the ice arena.
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, locker rooms, and changing areas, ensuring all supplies are replenished.
  • Collect and dispose of trash and recycling from designated areas.
  • Clean and maintain the ice rink glass, and seating areas.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of common areas, such as lobbies, hallways, and offices.
  • Operate cleaning equipment safely and efficiently, such as floor scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, and pressure washers.
  • Report any maintenance or repair needs to the General or Assistant Manager promptly.
  • Follow all safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Assist with setting up and breaking down for events as needed.
  • Ensure all cleaning supplies are stocked and inform the supervisor of any inventory needs.

Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a cleaning or janitorial role preferred.
  • Knowledge of cleaning chemicals, proper storage, and disposal methods.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Good communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
